Irene is a Herreshoff ketch, a scaled down Ticonderoga design. Built in 1980, in Michigan, the boat has a Panama Canal transit number and has seen some ocean miles.
Irene is a full keel, heavy displacement boat. The advantages of this configuration with relatively shallow draft and easy sea motion, as compared to our last boat with her fin keel, will be appreciated. Our biggest challenge handling Irene so far has been docking and we expect ample opportunities on our planned route to improve those skills.
We have been pleased with the performance of the boat and expect to be able to maintain respectable cruising speeds.
There are comfortable accommodations for four, a capable sail plan and we have updated the systems for extended ocean cruising. Updates include engine driven water maker, wind vane, auto pilot, radar, new sails, new standing rigging, galley updates, wood burning stove.
